A Guide To Bank Holiday and National Days In The UK.

April Fools Day

April Fools Day, sometimes called All Fools Day is believed to have originated with the introduction of the Gregorian calender in 1582.
The New Year commenced in January instead of April as before and some people who did not realize it or chose to ignore it became known as fools.

A very good page on the subject can be found here.
