A Guide To Local History In The Holsworthy Area.

Book Introduction

The Holsworthy Local History Centre, in the short period of time that it has been in existence, has amassed an astonishing amount of information on the history of Hoisworthy and its surrounding Parishes, largely thanks to the interest and enthusiasm of many present residents, and also to the very valuable records of past members of the Community.

Much of this information is of great interest to specific families as well as to researchers of local history and social conditions, but an overwhelming amount of detail has an appeal to many people, be they local longstanding residents, some of the increasing number of visitors to the area, or part of the growing numbers who intend to make this district their future home. All have an interest in the factor-s and events that have made this Community into “this blessed place”. To all such people this book is addressed, in the hopes that each will achieve as much pleasure and knowledge from its reading as we have from its compilation.

Footnote:— Readers will doubtless consider many other events worthy of inclusion, especially those of the twentieth century. We apologise for their absence, but would like to explain that most of our research refers to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and in view of our uncertain future we thought it advisable to publish what we have accumulated, rather than wait to obtain more and then find we cannot print.
