1872    National Agricultural Labourers Union formed.
1878    January 5th. Market Report:— Cows and Calves, 18—20 guineas, sucker pigs, 10—12 shillings each, ducks, 516d—6.0s per couple, woodcock 3s, pheasants 4s, snipe 14d each, butter 16d/lb. Cod 4d/lb, conger 3d/lb, pilchards 40 for 1s.

1892    Holsworthy Agricultural Union was formed.
1894    Amalgamation of The Holsworthy Agricultural Union and The Stratton Agricultural Society.
1895    First milking machine produced.
1898    Market Report:— Cows and Calves Ā£13–Ā£18, Fat beasts 54s–56s, Ducks 6s.–7s.6d. a couple. Snipe 8d.–9d. each, Bread 6d. per 4lb loaf, Eggs 24–26/1s, Potatoes 20lbs/1s.
1902    Average Agricultural Labourers wage, plus all allowances, rose to 17s 5d per week.
1905    January. Opening of new cattle market at Greenaway, at a cost of Ā£800.
1912    First English sugar-beet factory opened.
1920    Torrington Dairies started collecting cream from farms for use in butter-making.
1921    Death of Samuel Holman of Pyworthy, Blacksmith and Dentist and designer of the first iron plough.
1934    Milk Marketing Board started.
1934    Derriton Creamery, originally built by Stacey and Sandford, closed. Later sold out to Cow and Gate.
1939    1939-45. First combine harvester in the district used on Common Moor by the War Agricultural Committee.
1941    The first tractor arrived on Lundy Island, supplied by Whitlocks of Holsworthy.
