A Guide To Local Annual Events In The Holsworthy Area.

Holsworthy St. Peter's Fair

Numerous activities are combined into what is commonly known as Fair Week which is held in July.Opening the Fair
Traditionally on Tuesday the Court Leet meets and has a lighthearted look at the previous year followed by the Ale Tasting where traditionally the Portreeve has to taste the ale in every pub.
Wednesday the Fair officially starts with the crowning of the Pretty Maid at 12 Noon followed shortly after by the opening of the funfair which runs until Saturday
Thursday sees the Furry Dance which is held around the streets of the town
Most evenings there is musical entertainment in the Town Square and numerous other activities occur during the course of the week.

Saturday 7th July

Car Boot sale in the town square. proceeds for Holsworthy Parish Church. Sellers assemble from 1pm. Buyers 2pm-4pm. £5 a car.

Roman Catholic Church Mass in the church at 6.30pm.

4 legged race organised by Holsworthy Rotary Club, minimum sponsorship £50 per team, proceeds to St Johns Ambulance. To book team call Ian on 01409 253449

LIVE MUSIC from 8pm with “Zamba”.
BBQ by Holsworthy Rotary Club.

Sung Eucharist/ Patronal Festival at the church at 10am

Methodist Service from 11am at the Bodmin Street Chapel

‘PARTY IN THE SQUARE’ from 2pm until 5pm.
Holsworthy Playgroup Family Fun Afternoon,fun for all the family! Local Charity & Youth Organisation Stalls, Entertainment, Live music from the town’s Youth Bands

Tai Chi demonstrations with Smiley Dragon, join in if you like!.

Civic Service in the Church from 6.00pm followed by Holsworthy Town Band in the Square at 7pm (All are welcome)

LIVE MUSIC from 8pm with “Company B”.

Tuesday 10th July

Holsworthy MUSEUM open from 11am-1pm in the Manor Car park

Meeting of the Court Leet, chaired by the Portreeve in all his finery, with petitions from its members 7.30pm in the Memorial Hall, doors open 7pm

Followed by music from the Town Band, who then leads The Town Crier, The Portreeve, with members of The Court Leet, to the Ale Houses of the Town for the ceremonial Ale Tasting and the presentation of the Fair Ivy to the Landlords

Town Band Concert in the Square on completion of the Court Leet (9pm ish)

‘Fair Day’ Wednesday 11th July

Proclamation of the Fair by the Town Crier at the Site of the Old Great tree of Holsworthy at 8am. Followed by the Bread Weighing Ceremony. The Portreeve presents certificates to children of primary school age plus an invitation to the Children’s Breakfast to children of primary school age.

CLIC Sergeant Breakfast in the memorial Hall from 8am

Pannier Market in the Square, Market, Food and Craft stalls from 9am. Stocks for Councillors from 11am.

St. Peter’s Fair Sale of Fat stock & Dairy Cattle at the Holsworthy Cattle market from 10.30am

Holsworthy MUSEUM open from 11am-3.30pm in the Manor Car park

‘Sporting Nations’ Flower Festival. Childhood Memories Exhibition, Browse and Buy Stall & Childrens Craft Corner 10am-9pm in the Bodmin St Methodist Church.

Holsworthy St Peter & St Paul’s Church, Display of Pretty Maid's Costumes through the decades 12noon to 8pm. Cake and Produce stall, Ploughmans lunch available 12.15pm to 2.30pm. Goodies Box Raffle.

Street Entertainment with Jazz from the Stannery Jazz Men in the Square

David Rowland’s FUN FAIR opens from 11am

12pm The Pretty maid ceremony at the Church at Midday followed by 170 years of Pretty Maid Tradition when Pretty Maids will once more step through the Belfry Door. Followed by the official opening of the Fun Fair by The Portreeve and The Pretty Maid

St. Peter’s Fair Luncheon in the Memorial Hall at 1.15pm.

Photographic Presentation by Phoenix Camera Club plus display of Fair Week 2009 & Pretty Maid 2010 photographs by Rodney “Paparazzi” Parrish in St Peter & St Paul’s Church, Cream Teas and cake stall 12 noon to 9pm for Church Window Fund.

Pretty maids Tea in the Church at 6pm

Evening Entertainment In The Square

Live Music from local bands “Steam Rocket, Steve Wilson and the Rock'n'Roll Ups”.

Bar-B-Q by H.A.T.S Theatre group
